Realtor-Client Relationship: Duties of a Client

At King Realty and Management, our mission is to fulfill our commitment to success!  What does that entail of? Well…our number one priority is helping our clients achieve their real estate goals by providing superb customer service and up-to-date and accurate information.

While we have a duty to all of our clients, many people fail to realize that the CLIENT (Buyer, Seller, Lessee, etc.) also has duties in this relationship.  It’s not just once sided.  If you’re working with a REALTOR here are a few “duties” that a client has in this two-way relationship.

  1.  Loyalty – If your REALTOR is providing a great service and is working hard to help you with your real estate needs, it’s only fair to be loyal to your agent.  If for some reason you’re not satisfied with your REALTOR, you can always terminate your representation with a written notice.  It’s as simple as that.   Make sure your REALTOR is aware so that they can make professional adjustments to maintain future client relationships.
  2. READ, READ, READ the documents BEFORE signing – Many people think that since their REALTOR reviewed the documents, they can just sign without reviewing it.  While your REALTOR does review documents and provides you with information, ultimately YOU are signing and need to review everything carefully.  If you have any questions, ask your agent.  It never hurts to ask!!!
  3. Communication – Remember that you’re relationship with your agent is a sort of “partnership.”  Don’t forget to communicate and collaborate with your agent.  Be sure to communicate your expectations and goals and work together to realize those goals!

I encourage you to be aware of these three duties that a client has to their agent.  While this list is not exhaustive, keeping these in mind will help you and your agent to build a great, productive and positive relationship.
