Location, location, location!!!
I know that the title of this post is a little cliche but it’s one of the most important things that one can think of when purchasing, investing or leasing a home. Today I’m going to focus on anyone leasing a property.
I have had so many clients that have recently relocated to the DFW Metroplex and it always seems that they have trouble deciding where they’d like to live. While I provide as much information to them as possible, it still seems like an issue. Here are a few questions that I suggest asking even before going to look at homes. Not only will it save you time, but it will also save you energy and frustration.
- Do you want to live in an urban or suburban area?
- Is the school district important? (Research school ratings)
- What’s your ideal commute time/milage to work? The grocery store? The mall?
- What’s your price range? (I say this because if you want a home in a ritzy or popular area you may have to pay.)
Once you’ve answered these questions, look at a map and drive to some of the areas that meet your “criteria.”
Remember that you may need to make some concessions. Have your ideal in mind but be realistic! You may want a home within 10 minutes of downtown but it may not be possible to get it for under $1800 per month. Weigh what’s really important to you and your family. If you’re new to the area, remember that DFW may not be exactly the same as where you lived before. Keep an open mind.
